A true piece of man-made genius and beauty melded together in one unfathomable sanctuary of the blinding sword that leads toward eternity. A working light, the St. Augustine Light rises 165 feet above sea level. The climb to her observation deck is 219 steps, equivalent to that of a 14 story building. Her daymark, or colour/striping pattern, is unique to her. She has a black/white spiral striping pattern and a red lantern. This pattern enabled those at sea to establish their location during the day.Posted by Picasa
